He's been in the league for 4 years, he's played with Indianapolis and San Diego and now he's a Patriot. The Pats signed veteran wide receiver and punt returner, Griff Whalen today.

He's only had 47 career receptions, but he's returned 46 punts, averaging 8.2 yards per return. I think the Pats signed him strictly for punt returns.

Their other options are Edelman, obviously risky to use him, and rookie Cyrus Jones, who has trouble holding onto the ball.

Griff isn't a great returner, but the Pats want to limit turn overs and keep Edelman healthy.

It will be interesting to see if Whalen is given the opportunity to return a punt in a very big game against the Ravens on Monday night, I guess it depends on how well he does in practice, we'll see!
