Portland, Maine, Top City in New England for Beer Enthusiasts

Portland, Maine, isn't number 1? What?

Maine has many things that they hold near and dear, like beautiful beaches, great food, (including red hot dogs and Moxie), and most of all, beer of all kinds. The Tasting Table ranked the best cities for beer enthusiasts, and Portland, Maine, came in at number four.

The cities were determined based on four things:

The number of breweries per capita.
Bars per capita.
Beer tasting tours offered.
Average cost of beer.

One of the reasons why Portland, Maine, wasn't higher on the list was that the number one city had more breweries per capita. Also, Portland's beer is a little more expensive, and there are fewer bars.

Portland's Allagash Brewing Company was named as the favorite, according to The Tasting Table. Other honorable mentions included Belleflower Brewing, Bissell Brothers Brewing Company, and Geary Brewing Company, home of the first craft beer ever produced in Maine (there are so many missing from this list, but hey, don't shoot the messenger).

With all the beer enthusiasts that I know in Maine, I can't believe that the city only came in fourth place. Who beat them? That was my question, too.

At number 3: Las Vegas, Nevada.
At number 2: Pensacola, Florida.
And the number one best city for beer enthusiasts in America is Ashville, North Carolina.

While I am not a beer drinker, I do love the culture and the community of the whole beer thing. If you don't know what I'm talking about, going to a brewery is usually very laid back. You're generally not going to find servers who will come to your table. Sometimes there are not even tables, it's more of a picnic vibe. There are some breweries that have food trucks just outside of the place. Live music is also a good bet.
