Sake Japanese Restaurant, a fixture in downtown Portsmouth on Congress Street for two decades, has closed its doors.

The following post is on their Facebook page.

After 20 years of serving the Portsmouth community, it is with heavy hearts that we say goodbye to our beloved and loyal customers, many of whom have become more like friends and family to us,” the post began. “With the founders Mei and Peter embarking on their retirement, it is time for us to bid farewell. Deepest thank you to our customers for the wonderful memories and your loyal patronage. Seeing your familiar faces on a daily, weekly or monthly basis, will be greatly missed. Love you all and best wishes.”

No reason was given for the closure.

Sake Japanese Restaurant was a must-visit dining experience for many of my out of town friends on their trips to the seacoast.

It will be missed.
