Parts of Rockingham County, New Hampshire, and the Northshore of Massachusetts are ‘Abnormally Dry’
How can it be that we are actually concerned with sunshine and beautiful temps? It's because we're New Englanders that's why, not people from San Diego.
What's with the nice weather all the time?
According to Terry Eliasen's X Account, we are still well above the average for the year, but what's that yellow highlight right over Portsmouth, New Hampshire?
Well, according to drought.gov, that patch of yellow means that part of New Hampshire and Massachusetts is 'abnormally dry.'
Luckily, there are a couple of things happening so we shouldn't worry. We are, according to Terry, still well above average for the year for rainfall. Secondly, we will be getting a little rain on Wednesday night into Thursday, according to the National Weather Forecast.
The last time that the Northeast had a drought was in 2022, according to drought.gov. We also have been experiencing something called 'flash droughts' which are the periods of time that are really dry, followed by above normal rain.
These 'flash droughts' can last 2-6 months and in the big scheme of things, that's not too long, however, it can be terrible for agriculture, public water supplies and low streamflows.
The Weather Changes Frequently in New England
If you live here, you know that the weather varies from day to day. There's a saying around here that goes, "if you don't like the weather, wait a minute." That's why I think I'm a little freaked out by all this nice weather. I know I shouldn't think like that, but I can't help it. Mama didn't bring up no fool, ya know?
Man, growing up in New England sure did make us skeptical of everything. Even Mother Nature.
