This New Hampshire Bakery Closed, But An Old Favorite is Coming Back?
This took me by surprise. St. Anthony's Bakery, 231 Water Street, in Exeter, NH is now closed. It happened late last week and people are contemplating what is going in that space next.
There is a Facebook page called, "Exeter, NH Community Forum" that asked the question, "Why is St. Anthony's Closed" a couple days ago. The comments on that page said that the owner is retiring, but there might be a re-opening of the Loaf & Ladle.
The Loaf & Ladle was also on Water Street and people loved it. I remember it had the best soup and homemade bread around. It was the kind of stuff that you made the trip for, even if you were a ways away.
This Bakery Had Great Sandwiches For a Reasonable Price in Exeter, NH
There were some comments on the page that said St. Anthony's was one of the least expensive options for really good sandwiches. They stated you could get an excellent sandwich for take out in under five minutes and under $10.
The people who worked at St. Anthony's were super nice too. I mean, you couldn't really name your place after a Saint and not be nice, ya know? The strudel was delicious and always served with a smile.
The restaurant business or any food establishment is an incredible amount of work. I'm not sure people realize just how much. I think about it as having a baby. No one really knows how much work it really is until you actually have one. Lack of sleep, worry, etc., etc. It's all part of the food industry.
Best of luck to St. Anthony's bakery owner and here's hoping those delicious soups return to Exeter, NH from the Loaf & Ladle.
