David Ortiz tells us why he decided to hang'em up in this touching video posted on the Players' Tribune website.

I want to share this with you today on my 40th birthday, because I want the focus this season to be on the team and bringing a championship back to the city of Boston. Thanks to everyone for the support, and see you in Spring Training.

It seems a little odd to announce a retirement for an upcoming season only one month following the previous season. Most retirement announcements (See: Derek Jeter, Mariano Rivera, Chipper Jones) happen during the early weeks of Spring Training.

Big Papi decided on his 40th birthday that the 2016 would be his last. So be it. I suppose it's better to end your career on your own terms instead of someone else's as result of your playing ability.

Ortiz ends his career as the 2nd best Red Sox hitter of all time behind Teddy Ballgame.

Next stop Cooperstown? I think so.

Also, what's up with this guy?
