Meet DrinkMate, the world's smallest breathalyzer that plugs into your phone and displays your current BAC via a mobile app. You can't argue it's cool factor, but will it actually help to prevent drunk driving?

DrinkMate was designed as a new and convenient way to be responsible while drinking, boasting "that it always has your BAC". Get it?

The breathalyzer is about the size of a chapstick container that plugs into the bottom of your Android smartphone. Once the DrinkMate app has been downloaded the two sync, and after lightly blowing on the end of the breathalyzer, your BAC will appear on the screen.

Will this help to prevent drunk driving?

We've all (those that drink anyway) been in the unfortunate position of not knowing if your BAC is over the legal limit and if it's a good idea to get behind the wheel. Some chance it, and some do not. Sometimes you make it home, and sometimes you're not that lucky.

These breathalyzers are not new. I've seen many become the joke gift of a party, and by the end of the night people are using it to see who can get the highest BAC.

Other breathalyzers require batteries and are often buried in a drawer somewhere in your kitchen. DrinkMate is small enough to carry in your pocket, and it uses the phones battery. So as long as your phone is charged and on you (let's be honest they always are) you're good to go.

I'm all for getting drunks off the road and if you think you need something that displays a number on your phone's screen to keep you from getting behind the wheel, well more power to you.

Me? I don't need a fancy app to tell me I've pissed my pants and shouldn't drive. I can make the decision on my own.
