Actress Nicole Maines, from Orono, will make history this week when she debuts as TV's first transgender superhero on The CW series Supergirl.

You may remember Maines and her family won a lawsuit against the Orono school district back in 2014, allowing transgender students in Maine to use the restroom that corresponds with the with their gender identity.

According to the Bangor Daily News, Maines will have a featured role this season on Supergirl. She will play news reporter Nia Nal, who eventually will be revealed as superhero Dreamer.

I'm not a big superhero fan, but I love to see local talent make it big. The fourth season of Supergirl premieres this Sunday, October 14 on The CW.
