250-Year-Old Piece of American History Coming to Maine This Independence Day
If you know me, you know that I am a major history geek. In school, I was always bad at math and bad at science (because it required you to do math), but I was crushed when it came to history.
And, that love of history has stuck with me throughout my entire life. Youtube is constantly feeding me shorts about history and my recommended list on Netflix is mostly documentaries.
Much to the dismay of my kids, my idea of a great vacation is checking out museums, visiting tourable ships, and reading every museum in the streets sign I walk past.
So, it should not be a big surprise that I am really excited about this news.
The Declaration of Independence Coming to Hallowell, Maine
According to a post on the City of Hallowell Facebook page, one of the original copies of the Declaration of Independence is coming to the Hallowell City Hall this 4th of July.
One of only 26 surviving Dunlap Broadsides copies, it will be available for viewing between 10 AM and 2 PM on the 4th of July. The event is free and open to the public.
Additionally, at 11 AM, Maureen AuCoin, the 2024 Hallowell Citizen of the Year, will do a special reading of the Declaration of Independence.
