United Airlines launched multiple new nonstop flight options on Saturday, including the first direct commercial service between Maine and California.

According to WMTW, United Flight 1207 arrived at the Portland International Jetport at 4:24 p.m. Saturday, bringing passengers directly from San Francisco to Portland for the first time. The Portland Fire Department marked the occasion with a ceremonial water salute.

United also began nonstop service Saturday between Portland and Los Angeles International Airport. Both the San Francisco and Los Angeles routes are seasonal and operate only on Saturdays, but they mark a major milestone for air travel in Maine.

According to WMTW, the routes are currently using Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft, which can carry up to 178 passengers.

With the addition of the California flights, Portland now has nonstop service to all seven of United’s domestic hubs. For the summer 2026 travel season, United is also offering Saturday service from Portland to Houston Bush Intercontinental Airport, along with daily service to Chicago O’Hare, Denver, New York/Newark, and Washington Dulles, the news station reported.

Bangor is also seeing a major new connection. On Saturday, United launched its first-ever scheduled nonstop service between Bangor International Airport and Denver. United already offers nonstop service between Portland and Denver.

Bangor International Airport celebrated the new route on social media, saying the flight opens new doors for travelers heading to the Rockies, summer adventures, or connecting flights across the West.
