While I’ve recently uprooted my life and started exploring the area around Portsmouth, New Hampshire, I stumbled upon a hidden gem that I had to share: Enzo Benzo’s Italian Bakery & Café.

Just a quick 8-minute drive (dangerous, I know) from my Airbnb in Eliot, Maine, this donut haven has had me hooked from the very first bite.

It's sooo good.

From the moment you walk in, the atmosphere pulls you in. Warm wooden floors and white exposed beams give the space a cozy, rustic Italian feel. Your eyes are immediately drawn to the display case lined with gourmet donuts, beautifully arranged behind glass, each one made fresh every single morning.

And trust me, you can taste that level of quality.

Fair warning: choosing just one is nearly impossible. My advice? Go with a few and share (if you can).

What to Eat at Enzo Benzo’s Italian Bakery & Café in Eliot, Maine

Part of what makes Enzo Benzo’s so special is its ever-changing menu.

As they put it, “We do not follow a fixed menu—what you will find depends on what is in season, what inspires us that day, and what comes out of the oven.” That creativity and authenticity shine through in every bite, and it’s exactly what keeps people coming back.

Beyond their standout donuts, they also offer a variety of Italian favorites like house-made focaccia sandwiches, arancini, millefoglie, and cornetti, making it just as perfect for a quick lunch as it is for satisfying your sweet tooth.

If you go, I highly recommend trying the “Northender” (their take on a Boston cream) or the cannoli donut.

Both were incredibly fresh, light, and generously filled, decadent without being too heavy.
