Father's Day has a way of bringing back memories.

Not necessarily the big moments, either. It's the little things New Hampshire dads taught us growing up that seem to stick around the longest. The lessons that happened while fishing on a lake at sunrise, helping stack firewood before winter, learning how to drive on a snow-covered road, or standing in the garage holding a flashlight "wrong."

Whether your dad grew up in the Granite State or raised you here, chances are many of these lessons sound familiar.

New Hampshire dads have always had a certain way of doing things. They taught us how to be resourceful, independent, and prepared for just about anything Mother Nature could throw our way. They showed us the value of hard work, respecting the outdoors, and fixing problems before calling someone else to do it.

I love what my Dad taught me and being able to teach my kids. I like to call it generational skills and learning. Some lessons were practical. Others were delivered with a raised eyebrow, a head shake, or one of those classic dad sayings that somehow made perfect sense years later.

And while every family is different, some experiences seem almost universal for anyone who grew up in New Hampshire.

From mastering snowstorms and lawn care to learning the sacred rules of fishing and understanding why the thermostat was never to be touched, these are the things many of us learned from Dad along the way.

Take a walk down memory lane and see how many of these lessons sound familiar. Chances are you'll find yourself smiling, laughing, and maybe even hearing your dad's voice in your head as you scroll through.
