Fritzel is Somersworth resident's Kerry Schwidde's best friend and it's easy to see why.

Kerry suffers from has Sensorial Hearing loss. She has cochlear implants and hearing aids. She chooses not to use her hearing aids as they don't really help her situation.

“If someone knocks on the door, Fritzel runs to me and alerts me by bumping his nose against my leg, I hand sign ‘what?’ and then he leads me to the door and paws the designated target already placed on the door, then he goes to his stay mat and waits. When the smoke detector sounds Fritzel will alert Schwidde and lead her outside. There is also a specific target for the stove timer.

“If someone calls out loud for me by name or mom, then Fritzel alerts me, I hand sign what, then he leads me to that person,” Schwidde said.

Fritzel can also warn of a possible intruder and is trained to listen for Schwidde’s alarm clock, cell phone sound and vibration, and even to warning alerts in her car."

Recently, Fritzel has had a number of visits to the vet as a tumor is growing on his tail and he needs surgery to remove it.

Unfortunately, Kerry and her husband simply cannot afford the procedure this beloved and necessary member of their family need, so they have set up a GoFundMe account, as well as a special account at Holy Rosary Credit Union: Kerry M. Schwidde FBO Fritzel.
