Don't be fooled by the latest Facebook hoax involving Market Basket and a $200 coupon. It's a scam!

The link started circulating social media channels, namely Facebook earlier in the week, offering shoppers a chance to cash in on a $200 grocery coupon at Market Basket in celebration of their birthday.

All users had to do, was share the link on Facebook multiple times and they could be $200 richer in Market Basket money.

It looked official with the supermarkets logo at the top of the page, and it even referenced actual locations for people to redeem it at. However, it has since been proven a hoax, so stop SHARING IT!

Here's a letter from Market Basket in response to the prank (courtesy of Jane E. Twombly via Facebook):

According to the Chelmsford Independent, Jay Rainville, Director of Advertising for the grocery store, said their Tewksbury headquarters have been receiving calls all day about it, and says "All that I can tell you is that it has nothing to do with us. That is all I know.

No evidence of a virus has been linked to those who clicked on the false ad, only minor embarrassment.
