Tom Brady is returning to the Patriots. But barring some intervention from my friends in the Northeast DeLorean time travel club, he won’t be airing out any passes.

The same day the Pats announced a regular season game in Germany against a team Brady tortured throughout his long Patriots run, team owner Robert Kraft (famous for surprising fans as of late) made the major announcement:

Brady will be honored on Sunday, September 10, vs. the Philadelphia Eagles. Still no word on when they'll take on that other supposed team, the Boston Bobcats.

A year ago, no one would have ever believed this. But as is the case with a Celtics great who feuded with his former teammates before being welcomed back into the family (and recently completing his college degree here in New England), Father Time often heals wounds just as quickly as he ends brilliant careers.

Still, the rapidity with which Brady and the Patriots made amends was remarkable from the start, with coach Bill Belichick making a surprise appearance on the QB’s podcast the day after he retired to congratulate him – and share some warm words quite unlike The Hoodie.

But it’s been a tough time for Brady – beginning with a public separation and divorce, followed by his alleged involvement in a cryptocurrency scandal alongside other Boston sports legends. Where we really started to worry about Brady was it was floated that he was toying with the idea of pursuing standup comedy.

So, perhaps we shouldn’t be surprised by the reunion. Kraft has always insisted that the Patriots are a family, and nobody brought more bread to that table’s family than Thomas Edward Patrick Brady Jr.

After all, it was a mere 25 years ago that Mr. Kraft was almost forced to move the team out of Massachusetts after it seemed impossible to build a new stadium.
