Boston can have “Dirty Water," because a town across the river has adopted a new song: “The Safety Dance.”

Just weeks after it was named the best city in America to raise a family, Cambridge was named the second-safest city in the U.S. to go trick-or-treating. No wonder Matt Damon loved those apples so much in “Good Will Hunting”. It appears the city doesn’t have to worry about any razor blades. You know, when someone uses razor blades to peel off all the skin on your apple and it makes your candy bag all gross. What were you thinking of??

In a study that considered several aspects that are of concern to parents, the Chamber of Commerce ranked Cambridge just behind Gilbert, Arizona, when it comes to safe trick-or-treating. The criteria include pedestrian fatalities, violent crime, property crime, sex offenders, and law enforcement.

Cambridge took the top spot for best place to raise a family based on academics, the great outdoors, and small-town feel, all aspects that seem to jive with the Chamber’s assessment of sensible sweets pandering.

California had the most cities overall in the safest 25, with Glendale, Irvine, Carlsbad, Burbank, Sunnyvale, Torrance, and Murrieta making the cut. Arizona finished second with Scottsdale, Chandler, Peoria, and the aptly-named-for-Halloween-city Surprise, joining Gilbert.

Sadly, only one other New England town made the list: Stamford, Connecticut. But the good news is that Stamford is home so a pretty notable New England business, and if you knock on the right door, you might get some candy from a WWE Superstar.

Just don’t ask them for any cucumbers.
