Sail Portsmouth is back after a one-year hiatus—and it's going to be in July instead of August!

Named for a War of 1812 naval hero, the Oliver Hazard Perry is "similar to the ships that crossed the ocean to bring settlers to the New England region," according to seacoastonline.com. The Oliver Hazard Perry will be returning to Portsmouth during the Parade of Sail on Wednesday, July 25.

Sail Portsmouth also will feature schooners Roseway and  Harvey Gamage; both have been educating youth at sea under sail for almost half a century.

Here is how to have some fun:

1) Tour the three-masted, square rigged ship, Oliver Hazard Perry. The ship is open for tours from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. July 26-29. General admission includes the tour, plus access to the exhibitor tent, entertainment, and food vendors. Plus, the kids will enjoy meeting the band of friendly Pirates. There will be prizes for kids (and even big kids) that dress up like pirates.

2) Sail to Boston on the 2-masted schooner, Roseway. The July 26 sail will be four to six hours, depending on wind, and will include refreshments.

3) Go on a two-hour day sail. Harvey Gamage will offer day sails on the ocean from July 26-29.

4) Take a sunset sail with a pirate. Harvey Gamage will offer a two-hour sunset cruise from July 26-28. Beer, wine and other refreshments will be offered, and you might get a chance to meet a pirate.

Tickets for all tours and sails are available at the events. Take advantage of discounted pricing by purchasing in advance:
