March 17th is not only St. Patrick's Day, but also Evacuation Day. Today is a public holiday in Suffolk County, Ma. Many public offices and schools are closed.

Evacuation Day commemorates the first big win for the American military in the Revolutionary War.

General George Washington secured Dorchester Heights and blasted cannon shells at the British troops in Boston. The Brits finally evacuated Boston on March 17th, 1776.
