You Can Rent Real Egg-Laying Chickens, Complete With Coop, From This New Hampshire Couple
Due to the high cost of eggs, many people are getting their own chickens to lay their eggs for them.
In Goffstown, New Hampshire, according to CBSnews.com, Christine and Brian Templeton will give you 2 or 4 egg laying chickens, plus a whole lot more.
- A sweet chicken coop handmade by the Templeton's neighbor
- All the feed the hens need
- Instructions on how to care for the birds
- If you can't figure it out for yourself, the Templeton's offer phone support
You will get about a dozen eggs per week with two birds and about double that, with four.

According to the website, rentthechicken.com, they will deliver everything to you.
Are Chickens Hard to Care For?
You feed them, give them water and let the birds roam around your yard. They go into the coop themselves at night.
At the end of the season, the Templeton's will take everything back. If you want the same birds as you had for one season, you can make a request to do so in case you get attached to the birds.
Is It Cost Effective to Rent The Chicken?
The 2 chicken package is about $600 for 6 months. After that, the Templeton's will come and take all the stuff back. Sweet!
Say you buy the expensive eggs at the grocery store at $8 dollars a dozen every week, renting a chicken, coop and all, probably wouldn't make financial sense, however, this service offers a really cool experience.
If you have kids, you can teach them about agriculture, how to take care of another living thing and where their food comes from. Pretty cool.
Now, however, the cost of eggs is expected to rise with no end in sight for 2025, so maybe sooner than later, renting a chicken will be cost effective.
