The Dover Police has issued a warning to all residents of Dover and surrounding areas to refrain from practices that attract bears.  In the story from Foster's, Dover Police Chief William Breault had this to say:

The Dover Police Department and NH Fish & Game would like to take this opportunity to remind people to store their garbage in airtight containers, preferably in a garage if possible, and to avoid putting meat in compost piles

The story also says that bird feeders should have been taken down by April 1.

At one point in my life, I lived in Candia, NH and my neighbors had a LOT of birdfeeders hanging from the trees that we sort of shared out in our backyard.  I have nothing against birds or bears, but I was afraid that all these feeders would attract Yogi and all his pals.  My son was very young at the time and the last thing I wanted was a bear to come strolling along while he was playing the yard trying to get a snack and potentially run in to my son.  When she refused to take them down around this time of year, in the middle of the night one night, I took the birdfeeders down and put them in her unlocked shed.  She knew it was me, but soon after that, I moved and I'm sure she was glad!  haha!  Sorry, Lady.  No hard feelings.  :)
