According to countryliving.com, a record number of stores are closing on Thanksgiving this year.  I am very happy about this news!  Can't we just take a breath for a moment?  I mean, give the people that work at these places a break and let them be with their family.  If you really need to shop, you can do that 24/7 online and no one will stop you, except maybe your credit card company.

On the other hand, I suppose if you didn't HAVE a family, it wouldn't be so bad to work on a holiday like Thanksgiving.  At least it would give you something to do.  In that case, I can understand it.  Also, some places pay more if you work on a holiday, so there's that too.

Here's a partial list, according to the country living piece, of the places around here that are closed on Thursday:

  • Ace Hardware
  • Home Depot
  • Lowe’s
  • Office Depot
  • OfficeMax
  • Staples
  • Apple
  • dressbarn
  • Marshalls
  • Burlington
  • Nordstrom Rack
  • The Paper Store
  • TJ Maxx
  • Bob’s Discount Furniture
  • HomeGoods
  • Mattress Firm
  • Pier 1 Imports
  • Barnes & Noble
