Spaulding Smails from ‘Caddyshack’ Is from Boston?

Caddyshack was on TV yesterday afternoon and it occurred to me that I once met the actor that plays one of my favorite characters, Spaulding Smails. His name is John Barmon and he lives in Boston!

This was about 15 years ago as he visited the radio station I was working at the time, not to promote anything, just out of the kindness of his own heart.

The memories I have of this visit are still pretty vivid (as he is one of my cinematic heroes.)

He was living less than an hour away from the Seacoast and loves this area.

His stories of the other iconic actors were fascinating and commented that the late Ted Knight was the exact opposite of his character Judge Smails.

Knight was incredibly generous to the crew of kids on the set and one of the nicest guys John had ever met in the business.

Ironically, Rodney Dangerfield was always very worried that his performance was sub-standard because his jokes would get no reaction from the actors that were 'playing it straight'.

According to IMBD, John F Barmon Jr. is a very successful real estate salesman in Boston and I, for one, can verify that I've met him and can confirm that this is true!
