Blanding's Turtle

Do yourself a favor and check out every available image for a Blanding's turtle that you can find, because every one that I've seen features what appears to be a hilarious smile on it's face.

I was astonished to discover that we have this species in the Seacoast area. I thought they were native only to The Great Lakes, but sure enough we have a small yet sturdy population that needs all the help they can get.

The new construction by the Depot Road will give these rapturous reptiles a better route to keep away from passing vehicles.

This will serve as perfect timing for these turtles, as they tend to stay put for most of the year, EXCEPT for the month of June. Similar to many breeds of turtles around this area, the females are known to travel impressive distances looking for soft sandy areas to lay their eggs.
