Secret Treasure Found In The Clambake At Newick’s In Dover

Restaurants are starting to open back up after a long shutdown due to Covid-19.  Just eating out seems like a real treat right now.

For one New Hampshire Family, eating out turned into an actual "treat" when they found a pearl in their food!

Political consultant Mike Dennehy and his family decided to get some food at the world famous Newick's in Dover, NH.  They are well known for their delicious lobster and beautiful views.

Dennehy tells WMUR that he and his wife ordered the clambake and got a pretty big surprise.  When his wife bit into her steamed clams, she found an actual white pearl!

According to WMUR, Mrs. Dennehy has been a lifelong customer of Newick's, but this is the first time anything like this has happened!

So, how rare is it to find a pearl inside a clam at a restaurant? According to Goldstein Jewelers:

"The odds of finding a pearl in your restaurant oyster are 1 in 10,000 to 1 in 12,000 depending on the species of mollusk.  The vast majority will be small, off-color and flawed.  Only about 1 in 10,000 oysters will produce a gem quality pearl."

I was also curious about what the value would be.  I don't have specifics about this actual pearl, but according to The Pearl Source, a pearl can range anywhere from $50 to $2000!

So, even on the very low end, it looks like that one pearl would cover the cost of their dinner and at the very least makes for a great story!
